The goal of the Grand Prix is to give children and their parents or mentors a chance to bond their hearts together as they build their pinewood cars. Secondly,
it will bring them together for a great day of excitement and Gospel presentation. For church groups (and Scouts) this can be a great opportunity to present the Gospel to the parents and visitors.
So much emphasis today is put on winning. Many believe the only way to be happy is to be a winner. This must not be the attitude behind the Grand Prix /
Pinewood Derby.
As you plan this event for your club keep in mind that every one must go home, win or lose, excited about their involvement in a great day. So how can we accomplish this?
Our goals for the event are:
1)
The Grand Prix gives us special opportunities to interact with children and their parents. We need to recognize these as opportunities to share the Gospel of Christ with them. A short but attention-gripping
Gospel message should be given on the day of the race.
Attitude and interaction during workdays and on race day directly affect the reception of the Gospel message. If you have a great message, but the event is poorly
planned, or the leaders have bad attitudes, or difficulties during the day are not handed well the message will be forgotten, but the problems will be remembered. The Gospel message is demonstrated in the lives of the
leaders. Be sure your life accurately reflects the love of Christ.
2)
It also provides opportunities for parents and children to interact together as they plan and build their car. Then on race day they experience together the “thrill of victory or the agony of defeat.” The
excitement of building a car and racing it will be one of those memories that that is fondly looked back upon. Victory or defeat will be forgotten but the great time will be remembered. Our goal is to help build a
good memory for parent and child.
3)
Having some good old-fashion fun.
The KEY to accomplishing these goals is to have a well planned and prepared event. That is the goal of the Grand Prix Organizer. We want you to have the most
organized and trouble free Grand Prix with the minimum amount of your effort.
Does this mean we guarantee that you will not have any problems? On the contrary, we guarantee you will have some problems. How you respond to these problems
will be part of the overall Gospel message of the Grand Prix. The better you understand this event the better your response will be.
Does this mean you will be able to pull this event off with little effort? No. The Grand Prix will require a great amount of effort. It is our goal to get you off to
a good start with materials that have already been developed. Why reinvent the wheel? You can take advantage of years of experience and hours of developing a database. The many hours you save can be better spent
preparing other aspects of the event.
