  1. Your “car” can be of any shape and design you can dream up.  However you must use the official wood block, wheels, and axles.

  2. You may NOT use a car from previous year’s races.  You must build a new car for this year’s race.

  5. Weights and accessories can be added to your car, as long as they are securely fastened, and meet all other specifications.

  6. Track lane strips are ¼” tall and 1 3/8” wide.  Your car should have a clearance of 3/8” on the under side to clear the lane strip.

  7. The maximum weight of the car is 5 oz.  On race day we will have an accurate scales to weigh each car.  The weight given on these scales will be considered official.  Please have your car as close as possible to the correct weight.  We cannot add weight on the day of the race, and will have limited time to subtract weight if your car is overweight!

  8. Your assigned car number must be on the car somewhere, even on the bottom is fine.  You do not have to use the decals that came with the car kit.

  9. Starting devices are prohibited.  Cars must be freewheeling.  The entire car including accessories must start the race behind the starting line.

  10. Wheel bearings, bushings, washers, and springs are prohibited.  (Wheel hubs must rub against wood or painted wood.)

  11. NO cutting of wheels will be allowed.  Only light sanding is permitted.

  12. Wheel and axle location on the cars can be changed.  Slots in the official wood block do not have to be used.

  13. The cars will be classified in one of several race categories.  These are determined by how many racers register from each age group.  Each category will have a maximum of 16 racers.

  14. Cubbies can enter a car with their parents in the adult category.   Awards will be given for the three fastest cars in each division.

  15. Design judges will evaluate your car in three areas: creative design, carving quality, and paint/finish.  Awards will be given to the top three designs in each race category.

  16. If a car jumps off the lane strip, the race will be run again (after all injuries are tended to).  If a car jumps the track 3 times in a row it is disqualified from that race.

  17. The official track from start to finish is 30 feet long and has a drop of 3 feet 4 1/2 inches in elevation.

Check in Procedures

(HAND THIS FORM OUT ONE WEEK BEFORE RACES)

Racers must have their cars ready to check in on race day.  There is very little time to make repairs to the cars.  Some drilling to reduce weight is acceptable, but there is no time to add weight or make major repairs.

Drivers should …

  1. Arrive at the race facility at least ½ hour before races begin.

  2. Take your car to the Repair Station for final adjustments and lubrication. We strongly suggest that you use some form of lubrication on your axles. Only well lubricated wheels have a chance of winning an award!

  3. Take your car to the Qualifications Table to be weighed and measured.  If it meets the criteria, your car will be kept and delivered to the Pit Area.  If the car is over-weight or over-size you will be asked to return to the Repair Station to make adjustments.

  4. Once your car is in the Pit Area, it must remain there.  (Be sure all lubrication is done before you take it to the Qualification Table.)   You may find a place to sit or visit till race time.  Please no running in the building.  Stay in the race area at all times.

  5. When the cars for a heat are announced, the corresponding drivers quickly move to the chairs at the finish line.  You get the best seat in the house when your car is in a race!!

  6. Every one present gets a free ticket for refreshments.  Refreshments and snacks are available any time except while the speaker is giving the short message.

  7. There will be an unattended play area for younger children to do some QUIET activities.  Parents are responsible for your own children.  They must play QUIETLY and KINDLY.

  8. There is a special prize for wearing your uniform.

  9. Most important of all: HAVE FUN!!
