Grand Prix / Pinewood Derby
Car Design Judging
|
Probably the toughest job in the whole event is design judging. Every racer has put heart and soul into making their car the best in the show. And the
design judge's job is to identify the best of them all.
The Grand Prix Organizer makes the job easier and also provides a way

You decide what the design judging criteria should be. We provide a set of judging criteria to get you started. But you can change them to what ever you want.

Then, generate your design judging sheets. A set of sheets is generated for each category or class of car. Usually the categories are set up based on the racer's age and/or gender.
Design judging must be impartial.
The Grand Prix Organizer produces design judging forms showing only the race car's numbers. The racer's names are hidden from the judges.

A second set of sheets allows each design judge's car scores to be entered on one summary sheet for each category and tallied.
The tally sheet provides a place for designating winners - 1st place through 6th place.
The reason for 6 ranked winners is that some events limit a racer to win either speed or design - not both. This spreads the awards around and lets more racers be winners.
This sheet is folded or put in an envelope for the announcer to read (in a dramatic fashion) to declare the design winners.
